What is body dysmorphia?
Body Dysmorphia Disorder is a condition where a person becomes intensely preoccupied with perceived flaws in their appearance. These flaws may be minor, imagined, or focused on specific areas such as the face, body muscles, or other features.
BDD is a form of mental dysmorphia and can seriously impact daily life. It's not vanity but psychology. With proper support and therapy, it is a treatable condition.
Symptoms of body dysmorphia
- Obsessing over perceived flaws in appearance
- Constantly checking or avoiding mirrors
- Comparing yourself to others nonstop
- Feeling anxious, depressed, or low in self-esteem
- Withdrawing from social situations
- Repeatedly seeking reassurance about looks
